January 2019 - RTBGH aka the Botanical Gardens

A walk to Devil's Throne had been planned (again), but Tasmania was in the grip of bushfires, smoke, wind and heat.  Reserves and national parks were closed off (and a bit scary).  So when Philip proposed a walk around the Botanical Gardens with a gourmet picnic lunch instead, those who were still "in" for the walk were all in favour!

Robert, Di, Philip and Kat met at the gates a little after 10.30am, and spent a very pleasant couple of hours meandering around sections we'd not seen for while.

Robert discovered a tree of life sculpture, installed in memory of children abused while in care.  He had been instrumental in it, writing the words used by the Premier Lara Giddings.

It was a lovely day at the gardens, lots of families and visitors.

There were ducklings at the lily pond (awwwwww).

Are there two kinds of Wollemi Pine??

Soon the zest for exploration gave way to thoughts of lunch, and we returned to our vehicles to get our picnic essentials.

We found a nice spot in the shade of a large tree and enjoyed our picnic, washed down with a nice little Rose (thanks Kat!).

A nice little alternative to Plan A.  We might just do this again :)
