After a 3 month hiatus due to COVID closures and restrictions, we got a beautiful sunny winters day to resume our walk a month on Sunday 28 June.
Due to some heavy rain
during the week, a coastal walk was a great idea and we quickly got the allowed
group of 10 (Kat, Philip, Caroline, Warren, Paula, James, Wayne, Gerwyn, Bob
and Lyn) who were keen to try out the new Cremorne to Lauderdale track which had been recently
opened by the Clarence Council.
The 3.8 kilometre new section of track traverses the coast between
Cremorne Beach and Mays Beach, offering spectacular views across Frederick
Henry Bay to Primrose Sands and the Tasman Peninsula..
Although the
walk can be started at either end, we met at Cremorne Beach Reserve at the end
of Cremorne Ave on Frederick Henry Parade at 10am. There is some parking and a
toilet at the reserve.
After walking along Cremorne beach the track is easily located at the northern end. It climbs up to the grassy headland of Calverts Hill which is mostly reserve.
The track then slopes back down to Mays beach where we stopped for snacks at about 11.30am.
Due to some injuries playing up for some members of the group, we did not continue on to Lauderdale. Instead, we walked along the kilometre long curve of beach, crossing a spine of rock that divided it into two sections to its conclusion at Mays Point where the track climbs up off the beach to continue on to Lauderdale.
